Texas Global ISSS Language Circles Kickoff

  • Interested in practicing English or another language? Join a Language Circle! You can participate either as a language learner or Language Circle Leader. Leaders are native or advanced speakers that want to help others take their abilities to the next level. It’s a great chance to learn terms and phrases that aren’t typically covered in formal language classes.

Harry Ransom Center Tour

  • Join your friends and classmates in the ELC for a tour of the Harry Ransom Center. The HRC is well-known around the world as an outstanding humanities research center with collections containing millions of writings, rare books, photographs, and works of art.

  • Visualizing the Environment: Ansel Adams and His Legacy
  • “Photographs by American landscape photographer Ansel Adams (1902–1984) remain some of the most immediately recognizable environmental images of our time. [This exhibit] showcases some of these iconic works by Adams alongside those of his predecessors and the generations of artists he influenced and inspired.”

Pools and Splash Pads in Austin

Austin is a wonderful place to live, but it gets HOT! Here are some ways to stay cool and explore UT and Austin while it is still hot.

Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex

RecSports Memebership:
  • Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex is a part of RecSports.
  • Membership to RecSports is not included in your ELC tuition.
  • To purchase your membership, ELC students must visit the RecSports Office in Gregory Gym (GRE 2.200).
  • $26 a month!

Deep Eddy Pool

  • Deep Eddy Pool is an historic, man-made swimming pool and is the oldest swimming pool in Texas. In 1915, A.J. Eilers, Sr. bought the land surrounding the swimming hole and built the concrete pool.  The pool gets its name from an eddy formed by a large boulder in a popular swimming area on the river. Cold springs rose from the river banks next to this popular swimming area and the water from these springs continue to fill the pool today.
  • Please note that Deep Eddy will be open from 6 am – 8 am while Barton Springs is closed.  The pool will be free until 8 am, at which time regular schedule and fees will apply.
  • Open Daily through September 30, 2024.
    • Hours:
      • Lap Swim, 8 am – 8 pm
      • Recreational Swim, 10 am – 8 pm
      • *Deep Eddy is closed the first Tuesday of every month.
  • Daily entry fee for residents: $5
  • Ticket sales for Barton Springs pool are recommended to be done online by going to your preferred Google or Apple Store and downloading the app, “ATXswims”.  Activate your ticket upon arriving at the pool. Tickets will be valid until the end of the day they are activated.

Liz Carpenter Fountain at Butler Park

Hours:

  • Open Daily 9 am – 10 pm

Just one part of the larger Butler Metro Park (formerly Town Lake Metro Park). This fountain overlooks downtown Austin, and lights up beautifully at night!

 

 

Pease Park Splash Pad

Located super close to campus, the splash pad is at the southern most point of the newly renovated Pease Park at 1100 Kingsbury St.

Hours:

  • Open daily 8 am – 9 pm
  • May – October

 

 

Austin Parks and Recreation operates 44 public pools and splash pads. Find one near you!
